Newsletter March 23rd

School will close at 12 on Friday March 27th for Easter and will reopen on Monday April 13th.

This week is a reading week, children will not receive any written work this week. Just a reminder that all children from 1st class upwards have a homework journal. The homework journal allows parents and teachers to communicate and is a good connection between home and school. We would ask all parents to sign their child’s homework each night and write a note if their child is absent for any reason.

While we know that birthdays are a very special time for children, we would kindly ask that cakes and treats are not sent into school for birthdays as some children have allergies and may react to some ingredients in the cakes/treats. We do not allow birthday invitations to be given out in school as this often causes upset in a class.

We would like to sincerely thank all the parents that drive children to matches and other extra- curricular events. Your support is greatly appreciated. We would also ask that parents do not stop at shops on the way back from events as it puts an unfair financial pressure on those that are driving.

Well done to our 3rd and 4th class mixed boys’ and girls’ football teams that took part in a blitz in Blessington last Friday.

The final figure for the recent PA table quiz is €4025. Again many thanks to everyone for your support.

Please ensure your child has their uniform on each day apart from PE days and has their proper tracksuit for PE. Please also ensure that names are on all items of clothing.

From now on children will be able to play football on the pitches on a rota basis at break times but they must have a change of footwear and a change of trousers.

All classes took part in a céilí for Seachtain na Gaeilge last week. Many thanks to Katie Charles and Dunlavin Forum for funding dance lessons. The children displayed their dancing skills before the céilí on Thursday. Ceolchoirms take place this Thursday and Friday.

Our 5th and 6th class boys and girls will take part in the Ken Browne memorial football tournament in Baltinglass next Thursday. If any parents are available to drive please contact the school office.

Football training for U10 boys takes place on Monday after school, finishing at 2.40.

Ceremony of Light for Confirmation children takes place this Tuesday evening March 24th during 8pm Mass. Children should bring their baptismal candle with them or another candle if the baptismal candle is not available.

Reminder: First Penance for First Holy communion Children will take place in St. Nicholas of Myra Church on Tuesday May 19th at 7pm.

If any parents have spare football boots that are in good condition but no longer needed we are collecting them this week in school.
